Looking at the list of award honorees for CES 2009, it’s no surprise that Samsung is grabbing awards up left and right. They looked quite impressive with a slew of products being announced, and demonstrated at CES 2009. From their new line of LED TV’s, to their mountable Blu-Ray player, Samsung looks poised to bring some fresh, and unique ideas to the home theater setup.
Samsung LED TV’s

What is shaping up to be their benchmark in television technology, the LED 8000, LED 7000, and the LED 6000 look to up the ante as to what televisions can bring to consumer’s home theater system.
The largest, but quite possibly overlooked aspect of the new line of Samsung TV’s, is the inclusion of Internet@TV. Its been talked about for awhile; the idea of bringing the information of the internet to TV sets. Certain devices have provided this, like Apple TV. There have been few manufacturers that have actually integrated it into the TV sets, though.
Samsung is breaking this mold with a partnership alongside Yahoo! In what’s called a ‘widget based’ interface, there will be many options for viewers in connecting to the internet. As of now, there will be options for connecting to Yahoo, Flickr, and eBay with more coming soon.
The physical design of the LED TV’s are also quite impressive, with some insane dimensions. The Samsung LED TV’s are only 1″ thick, and are boasted to be lightweight enough to hang up like a picture. In fact, the wall mount present on the sets are easy enough to hang up like a frame. So, you no longer have to worry about costly installations, or things of the sort.
Samsung BD-P4600 Wall-Mountable Blu-ray Player

No, that’s not a tablet PC, which is what I first thought of when I saw the device. It’s an actual Blu-ray player, with the ablitiy to be mounted on the wall. This is such a cool feature, considering how many mounted TV’s that are out there, with disc players that have to lie somewhere.
The Samsung BD-P4600 actually received an Honoree CES 2009 Best Innovations award, for Video Component technology.
The player is only a 1.5″ inches thick, with the Blu-Ray disc resting on the side of the unit. Besides having a unique physical design, the player will also have the options of streaming Netflix, and Pandora Online Radio.
It was quite a year for Samsung at CES 2009 this year. Time will only tell if these products perform well with consumers. Of course the big factor left to consider, is how they’ll actually cost. But with some unique, and in-genius design, I see some success for Samsung’s new line.
